
Wojapi
Wojapi is a healthy treat of honey, wild choke cherry, plum, sand cherry, currant, buffalo berry, or grape; all wild, all found on the Great Plains. In different times, Wojapi, has changed, with everyone adding their own touch. Wojapi can be eaten on fry bread, as a dessert, with ice cream, or as a side dish to meat.
Ingredients :
- 4 pounds of blueberries (Other berries, cooked apples, or cooked peaches can be used) -
- 4 cups of water -
- 2 cups of sugar -
- Half a package of cornstarch or arrowroot (to thicken) -
How to Prepare :
1. Mash the fruit.
2. Mix some of the water with the cornstarch or arrowroot.
3. Put mashed fruit, water, and sugar into a pot and slowly bring it to a boil.
4. Remove from heat.
5. Mix cornstarch or arrowroot in a little cool water.
6. Stir into the fruit mixture; watch for lumps!
7. Return to low heat and stir until thickened to a pudding consistency.
8. Serve on fry bread, ice cream, pancakes, waffles, or biscuits.
